While taking the course digital media production one of our assignments was to create a news package video. Through this assignment and the accompanying lectures I learned a lot about video production. One thing I did not have previous knowledge of before taking this course was the process of video production. I learned that there are three steps in producing a video or news package: pre production, production, and post production. In pre production you plan your product. During the process of planning you ask the five W’s plus more W’s. What are you filming? Whom are you filming? When are you filming? Where are you filming? Why is this important? What equipment will you need? What are your goals? In instant news there is less pre production as it is more of a thing for packages and non news projects. Storyboarding is also an important element of pre production as it is where you write your script and brainstorm ideas. In production you gather all your footage and audio. In production it’s important to watch out for harsh noises you can’t edit out in post production, and plan for any issues that may arise. It’s also important to remember that you can never have enough or too much B-roll. In post production you bring it all together and create your package using Adobe Premiere. Remember to back up your files.
