Reflection Blog 3

In week five of taking the class digital media production I learned a lot about photography and the art of taking a photo. I already had a good basis of knowledge for this section of the course due to my experience taking photos to go along with my stories for The Herald, Arkansas State Universities student news publication. I have also previously taken the class basic digital photography with the same professor. I did learn some new things from this course as well. For this section of the course we had an assignment that entailed attending an event and taking 75+ photos at the event as well as gathering interviews from the event for an accompanying news write up. This was definitely the most photos I’ve ever taken at an event by far but I really combined all of the elements I learned in this class, other classes, and from past experience. I took many different kinds of shots including close ups, wide shots and medium shots. I also used the rule of thirds when taking pictures. I think the hardest part of this assignment was narrowing down my photos because I had so many. Something I’m still not completely proficient in is photo editing. I have had it drilled into my head from journalism courses not to alter a photo too drastically and I’m scared to mess with photos too much because I like to go overboard.
